I’ve updated the programme to reflect recent emails going round the email list. More should be up after February’s crew meeting.

Flash Rovers and the next few weeks

Filed under: Upcoming — Simon at 12:40 am on Monday, June 19, 2006

Evening all,

Please take the time to read this email - it containts some pretty important info. This includes all the people who haven’t been to any Flash things yet!

This next fortnight is pretty busy for several of us, on account of Uni exams. This means, unofrtunately, that there is going to be little happening between now and the 28th of June - Unless some of you non-Uni people want to organise something!

Unfortunately due to people already cancelling, the formal fish n chips won’t be happening, for now.

Our next activity, unless otherwise notified, will be on the 29th of June at the Ed hotel, from 6:30pm til about 9/9:30. We will be having the membership officer from Branch coming along as well to see how we’re going as a crew and to decide whether or not we will be granted full crew status. For this reason, It is extremely important that you all try and make it there. You don’t have to be 18 or anything like that, just come for dinner and to talk about where Flash is going. Part of the night will be for programing future months, so if you have any ideas, please bring them with you. This is a great chance for new people to come along and to get to know the rest of the crew. Everyone is welcome! (Here’s a map! - http://www.edinburgh.com.au/findUs.asp)

It will be here that we will also ask whether or not you want to become an official Flash Rover. For those who aren’t familiar with the system, you get to come along to four “trial” meetings - a try before you buy sorta thing - and after these four meetings, you need to decide whether or not you are going to become a Flash Rover. We will have investitures for all those wishing to be Flash Rovers next semester.

Next semester will be alot more structured, with regular den meetings and more of a “Scouty” emphasis on the program. Those wanting to do badgework will also be encouraged and appropriate programing ideas introduced (there’s at least two of us wanting to do some badgework and it would be great to see some more!) Also, our fee system will be introduced with each member having to pay Crew and Branch fees each semester, as well as the annual Scouts Australia Membership fee. All up, it only costs about $60 every 6 months.

Please feel free to email or call me or Graham with any feedback, problems or questions about the crew (including program, meetings, anything), or Rovers in general.

We are here to make fun for ourselves and others, and we can’t do that if we don’t know what we all want to do!!!

Lastly, for those of you who want to get regular updates via email, please subscribe to the Flash Mailing List at this link: http://flashrovers.com/mailman/listinfo/us_flashrovers.com

Thanks heaps, I’ll see you all on the 29th!

Well here it is guys. The final programme from Period May - July

Save it, Print it and put it somewhere you can always see it. There is a lot happening so it’d be great to see you all go to as much as possible.

We won’t be sending you SMS’s about every activity anymore. We’ll send an email reminding you about what’s happening and any fine details you might need to know, but it’s up to you guys now to check the program to see what’s happening.

If you have any problems or questions, PLEASE ask me or Graham! You have our details, so use them if you need to!

We would also appreciate if you could let us know if you are going to an activity, just so we guesstimate what numbers are going to be there.

YIS, see you all soon.

Flash Happenings

Filed under: Upcoming — Simon at 12:09 am on Monday, April 10, 2006

Hi guys, half of your new crew leader here.

This email is to update you all as to what Flash is doing right now, and more importantly, how you can easily get involved and have some fun. There are heaps of opportunities to have an awesome time. All you guys need to do is read up about what is happening, let us know if you can or can’t go, and then turn up. Easy as that!

After tonight’s business meeting, it was voted that myself and Graham will take the reigns as joint crew leaders of Flash. Anyway, enough of the business stuff : Here’s what’s happening in Flashland in the coming weeks, months, etc.

EV is coming up very soon - next weekend in fact - and we are still wanting as many people as we can get to come along and help out! EV will be a great opportunity for all you Flashers (and some non-flashers) to get to know each other (and other Rovers) and more importantly, to give some Venturers a bit of stick. The weekend consists of us running activities for the Venturers, and then socialising with other Rovers at night. The cost will be about $40 for the weekend, food included. If you want to go (which I recommend all of you do), then please let Graham know, either by email or through the convenient contact us form :) . If you need a tent or think you might need help getting up there just let him know (and also any food allergies you might have).

Make sure all of you look at the programme! I know it isn’t 100% at this stage, but if you like the look of something then please contact the person in charge and get involved. Rovers is all about having an awesome time, but it’s up to you guys to take the initiative and to put your hands up. Us on the exec will plan the programme and do all the dirty work, but please, if you want to do something - let us know! My number is below, my MSN is king_simo69 at hotmail dot com or you can email me, or you can use the contact us form. There’s no excuse why you can’t contact us! A detailed programme of the next few months will be out shortly, but for now it’s as follows:

  • EV next weekend. Leave Adelaide Thursday 13th at night, leave again on Monday the 17th afternoon.
  • Investitures/linkups on the 30th of April. Possibly with sixty4, our host crew.
  • Vent Promo night on the 12th of May, Vent Challenge night on the 19th of May (both Friday nights)
  • If you guys have forgotten, read below about going to Bogong for a week in the snow. I’ve already registered, as have Cam and Dylan.

There is also Phrolic, cow pat bingo, paintballing and other humorous activities on the agenda. In the next few months we’ll be doing a lot more inter-crew as well as inter-section activities. And as most of us are just starting out in rovers, we’ll also be looking at running a few overnight activities/camps just for a bit of fun and to get to know eachother. Hopefully we can also start getting out amongst the community and doing our little bit in the way of service. Let us know if you have any ideas for what you want to do.

That’s all for now - keep in touch. Make sure you constantly check back to this website, and your emails if you’re on the mailing list.

Cheers guys,

Yours in Flashing, Rovering, Scouting, (drinking), etc.
