Ski Week

Filed under: Uncategorized — Dylan at 10:28 pm on Friday, March 24, 2006

Hi all,

We’re looking at getting a group of us (and other Rovers) to go over to the Bogong Rover Chalet for Rover Week 3 (8-15 July).

Basically, we’d be looking at driving over (just in cars, or a mini bus if we get enough people) on Friday the 7th, then returning to Adelaide on the 16th. This is in the Uni holidays for those of you that are at Uni.

Go here for an application!! Early bird discounts end April 1st, so if $$ is an issue, look at this soon! At an early bird price, it’s $275 (mind you, after that, the normal rate is still just $320!!) for the entire week in the snow including Accommodation and food, which is bloody awesome in my books. On top of that we’ll have basically transport and ski and boot hire, so we’d probably be looking at around $500-$600 each for the whole 9 days away, which is even more of a bargain! There are plenty of people that you could borrow gear off as well, if that’s a looming issue for you.

Please check this out, it’s an awesome opportunity and you want to experience it as many times as possible!

NB: no skiing experience necessary (trust me, I’ve been there)

Upgrading… Last time there was a couple of minor hitches, but nothing serious.

Update: Everything appears to be fine.

Progress …

Well we’re mostly up and running so I thought i’d post a little welcome message and explaining wats going on …

Communication

Well there are two forms of communication on the internet for flash stuff, there’s the email list, which hopefully you are subscribed to and also these blog posts. If you would like an account you can get one .

Ads

I plastered these funky google ads in a few spots around the website, there a bit of experiment that I will prolly get rid of cos there making no money for the crew … If you are greatly offended then I can remove them now or if you have a thought or two post a comment.

Printing

Most pages on the website are now easily printable by clicking the ‘Print this post’ or ‘Print this page’ under ‘Meta’ in the sidebar, this will make the format more readable (this is mainly for the program when it becomes better … )

Themes

Another little thing going on with Themes (how the website displays) have a look at them in the sidebar and if you have any particular thoughts about liking other ones than the main one, we may consider changing it. This one (fluidityrs) is the most polished for our needs because we think it is the one we will use.

Movie Night/Meetingness

Filed under: Uncategorized — Dylan at 8:08 pm on Friday, March 10, 2006

Hi all,

Just quickly a reminder/proper details about this Sunday/Monday (12/13 March). As you may have found out, the hike has been cancelled due to a lack of numbers, but the movies/pizza/socialising on Sunday night and Crew meeting on Monday are still happening.

People are welcome to come to Hawthorn Scout Hall (11 Egmont Tce, Hawthorn) at around 7 on Sunday night. We’ll be getting pizza for dinner, so bring along some $$ if you want to be included. It’s DVDs, snacks, drinks and merriment all night and everyone is welcome to crash the night. BYO whatever you wish.

The next day we’re looking at checking out the den (which will hopefully soon be emptied of Hawthorn’s stuff …) and brainstorm some ideas for it. Also, we have a couple of other things (fundraising and what not) that we can talk about. We’re also looking at probably running another election for the next executive, so if you think you’d like to take part in that, further discussions will be held on the wknd. Fees will also be discussed, so you’ll know exactly what will be involved. If you can’t sleep the night, come to the hall at around 9 or 10am. We’ll be finishing up around lunchtime, but feel free to come and go if you need. We can go down to Maccas, Subway etc or Woolies for brekky, or otherwise bring something along for yourself … cornflakes, froot loops, bread, haggis, whatever …

Please bring your member forms if you haven’t already so we can get everyone registered.

Make sure you check out the programme, especially the details on the week at the Bogong Rover Chalet in July (cheap rates end April 1 … that’s $275 for the accomodation and food for a whole week!! I’ll be looking into other costs soon, ie. transport and ski/boot hire, but probably looking at $500-$600 inclusive of everything). Also, Anton’s rogaining looks like it will be a great thing to do and a great opportunity to get out there and do something.

Anyway, that’s all from me, hope to see you on the wknd.

Cheers,
Dylan.

Rogaine

Filed under: Uncategorized — Anton at 10:09 pm on Friday, March 3, 2006

Hey all …

Unfortunately the planned hike to Deep Creek during the long weekend has been cancelled due to lack of participation, me and Graham are both very dissapointed. :-( The movie night and den work will still go ahead, with for word in a while about times and so forth.

On 25th March, there is a Rogaine on in the south of Adelaide. For those that don’t know, a Rogaine is an orienteering competition. These are very popular for developing navigation and fitness. This is only for 6 hours so it shouldn’t be too strenuous. Even though it’s called a race, most competitors are not going for prizes and we would have it easy in the Junior category, though we can just do as much as we want to do. Forms need to be in very soon, by the 10th of March, so can people please respond if they want to go and we can organise it from there. Team sizes upto 5 are allowed but if we get that many we could consider 2 teams. Checkout their website for more detail…

Be Happy :-)

Upgrading to Wordpress 2.0.1

It’s possible that there may be some downtime if I screw it up - it’s the first time I’ve done something like this.

And now it’s done - all seems to have gone to plan, just a few things I need to tinker with :)
